PY1 Safe2live Campaign

Safe2Live© is an HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C (HCV) Awareness and Prevention social marketing campaign targeting youth ages 8-13, approved by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The Safe2Live© educational materials are approved by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene - AIDS Administration’s Community Review Panel.

In 2009, PY1 has launched its pilot Safe2Live© HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C (HCV) Awareness and Prevention initiatives focusing on youth ages 8-13 in Baltimore City.  In 2010, the Safe2Live© campaign will be launched in the Washington, DC - Baltimore corridor, followed by an expanded regional and national effort. This is one of our nation’s areas hardest hit by the AIDS epidemic.

The PY1 Safe2Live© campaign goals are:

  1. To engage and inform the local, regional and national multicultural youth population who are in one of three developmental stages of questioning, experimenting with and engaging in sexual behavior  so that they are aware of HIV and HCV and how preventing the spread of the viruses can lead to a healthy and full life.
  2. To apply communication and performing art technologies locally, regionally and nationally to engage and inform at-risk youth ages 8 to 13.
  3. To decrease the taboos, myths and stigma about the HIV and HCV viruses.
  4. To increase awareness and prevention by providing facts and extending accurate knowledge about these diseases, in order to decrease the contracting of the HIV and HCV viruses.
  5. To encourage discussion about the HIV and HCV viruses between children and parents and to encourage families to seek additional information from health professionals via the proposed website: Safe2Live.org

Protect Yourself 1, Inc. presents its social marketing Safe2Live© campaign promoting positive health behaviors and providing capacity-building and training to local, regional and national community organizations.

PY1's Safe2Live© campaign consists of a 3-Phase Strategic Outreach Program  using the worldwide Web, broadcast/cable TV and street theater as accessible venues for engaging and educating our most vulnerable demographic and target audience. These venues are used to distribute entertaining, accurate, culturally competent and age-appropriate information about HIV and HCV viruses and precautionary steps to prevent contracting the diseases.
